Suffolk County Historical Society presents Book & Bottle: Civil Rights on Long Island with Christopher Verga on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. In this illustrated presentation, author Chris Vega will explore the often overlooked role of Long Island as a battleground of the civil rights movement, challenging us to consider how a racial caste system has directly or indirectly been enforced through slavery and post-WWII racial barriers to home ownership and educational opportunity, and how civil disobedience has been employed as a means to fracturing racial barriers on Long Island.
Members are free, non-members are $5 and includes light refreshments and admission to current exhibits. RSVP Requested, call 631-727-2881 ext. 100.
