Southold History Society presents the Winter Lecture Series: Long Island and the Civil War on Saturday, Apr. 21 at 4 p.m. at Peconic Landing. Bill Blyer will give a talk based on his book, Long Island and the Civil War. Long Island and the Civil War explores the impact of the Civil War on the New York City and Long Island region, from the 1860 presidential campaign to the wartime experience of Long Islanders in the field and at home. The author, Bill Blyer, is a prize-winnning Newsday staff writer for 33 years before retiring in the summer of 2014 to work on this book and to freelance for magazines and Newsday.
