Kids are invited to participate in an art workshop to create a Tar Beach Quilt on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Celebrate Black History Month in this art class is for children 9 to 12 years old. Art teacher Darlene Siracusano will teach the importance of quilting in the African American culture. Explore the art of Tar Beach, written by artist-author Faith Ringgold and she uses quilting to tell stories. Students will listen to the book Tar Beach and then create their own collage quilts using a self-photo, colorful material, and colored pencils to tell their own story.
Tickets are $15 for museum members and $20 for non-members.
