SUMMARY:Riverhead cardboard boat race
DESCRIPTION:Teams will race homemade cardboard boats across the Peconic River during the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race at the Peconic Riverfront in downtown Riverhead. \nThe event begins at 9 a.m.\, with the race start scheduled for 11 a.m. Spectators can watch the races from the riverfront and spend the morning at a waterfront festival featuring a family fun zone and a vendor marketplace set up near the boat launch in the waterfront parking area. The day also includes kids’ games\, activities\, food and entertainment. \nBoat builders are limited to cardboard\, duct tape and latex paint only. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.

SUMMARY:Defensive driving course at Mattituck-Laurel Library
DESCRIPTION:Mattituck-Laurel Library will host a six-hour defensive driving course sponsored by the American Safety Institute. \nThe class is approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Participants who complete the course are eligible for a 10% reduction on liability\, collision and no-fault insurance for three years\, and a four-point reduction on their driving record. \nThe nonrefundable fee is $35 per person. Payment can be made online or by cash or check at the library circulation desk. Checks should be made payable to Mattituck-Laurel Library. Participants are asked to bring lunch or snacks. \nMinimum enrollment is required to run the class. If the minimum is not met\, registrants will be refunded the $35 fee.
