SUMMARY:Art Show and Reception: New Paintings by Alan Bull
DESCRIPTION:Mattituck-Laurel Library will host an opening reception for “New Paintings\,” an art show featuring work by Alan Bull. \nBull is originally from Old Town\, Maine\, and studied at the Philadelphia College of Art. He was artist-in-residence at the William Steeple Davis House in Orient from 1996 to 1998. In 2000\, he received a NYSCA Community Connections grant for “Farm Freight\,” an exhibition of paintings and photographs documenting agricultural railroad depots on the North Fork\, shown at the Oysterponds Historical Society and the East End Arts Council. In 2019\, he illustrated “Augustus and Me\,” a children’s book about the history of Orient written by Janice Rose\, and has recently illustrated other children’s books\, as well as an album cover for Ian Hunter on Sun Records. Bull exhibits regularly in Orient and at the North Fork Art Collective in Greenport. \nThe show is on exhibit through February.

DESCRIPTION:Suffolk County Historical Society will present “Sparkling Through Adversity: Depression Glass of the 1930s\,” a Spotlight Series exhibit in the Weathervane Gallery. \nThe exhibit looks at the rise of mass-produced pressed glassware during the Great Depression\, when the crystal and glassware associated with the 1920s became out of reach for many households. Visitors can see colorful dish sets and accessories known as Depression glass\, produced in dozens of patterns and hues and sold at low cost. \nOn view are pieces from the historical society’s collection\, including pastel and jewel-tone examples\, iridescent opalescent “carnival” finishes\, and a uranium glass variety. The exhibit considers how these affordable wares brought small\, everyday luxuries to tables during the 1930s. \nThe gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday\, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission applies.

He holds degrees from Hofstra University (B.A.\, M.A.) and has had an extensive professional career. He has served as the chief curator of the Nassau County Museum of Art\, executive director of the Roslyn Landmark Society\, and co-founder and co-director of Artful Circle. His teaching credits include Hofstra University and Long Island University\, and his works have been exhibited at Walker Street Gallery\, Frank Caro\, and Tria Gallery. \nThe exhibition is free to attend and is a great opportunity for art enthusiasts to witness the works of a local artist who has made a significant impact in the art world. The event is part of the Wicked: For Good Weekend and is titled ‘There’s No Place Like Home.’ The event will run from 3 to 6 p.m. and will include a Wine & Cheese Art Opening Holiday Open House. The afternoon will kick off the holiday season with the opening of an exhibition curated by local gallery partners—VEME Studios\, VSOP Projects\, Alex Ferrone Gallery\, North Fork Art Collective\, and William Ris Gallery. The exhibition will showcase artists whose work reflects themes of belonging\, courage\, and community. Attendees will enjoy complimentary wine and cheese while exploring the gallery and mingling with friends. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the North Fork Arts Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase memberships\, gift cards\, or name a theater seat for someone they love. They can also pick up unique merchandise or original artwork. He holds degrees from Hofstra University (B.A.\, M.A.) and has had an extensive professional career. He has served as the chief curator of the Nassau County Museum of Art\, executive director of the Roslyn Landmark Society\, and co-founder and co-director of Artful Circle. His teaching credits include Hofstra University and Long Island University\, and his works have been exhibited at Walker Street Gallery\, Frank Caro\, and Tria Gallery. \nThe exhibition is free to attend and is a great opportunity for art enthusiasts to witness the works of a local artist who has made a significant impact in the art world.
