DESCRIPTION:A nonpartisan forum marking Black History Month will examine the historical legacy and contemporary impact of the Black vote on American democracy.\n\n\n\nThe program\, scheduled for Wednesday\, June 3 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Riverhead Free Library\, will include a demonstration of new voting machines by the Suffolk County Board of Elections\, offered in partnership with the AAECF Inc.’s #LIVOTEREADY initiative\, with hands-on voter education ahead of upcoming elections.\n\n\n\nScheduled panelists include Frederick Brewington\, Esq.; Alyson Bass\, Esq.\, Regional II director for the National Bar Association; Phil Andrews of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce; Colette Morgan of the Brookhaven Women’s Caucus; Godson Michel of Blue Surge Marketing Agency; and Terry Wildrick\, co-president of the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons\, Shelter Island and the North Fork. This year’s theme is “Celebrate America — North Fork legacy in the spirit of 1776\,” inviting artists to interpret what the nation’s 250th anniversary represents to them\, with a focus on the North Fork’s historical and cultural contributions. \nArtists may submit up to three pieces\, each measuring 10 inches by 10 inches. All mediums are welcome. Each accepted work will be sold for $100\, with 50% of the sale going to the artist and 50% supporting the museum. \nFinished works and submission forms must be delivered in person between Monday\, June 15\, and Friday\, June 19\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, along with the artwork submission form. The exhibit and sale will be presented online from July 1 to July 31\, 2026. Submission forms and guidelines are available on the museum website.
