DESCRIPTION:The Riverhead Combined Veterans Committee will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday\, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial monument on the corner of West Main and Court streets in Riverhead.\n\n \n\nThe time and date of the observance marks the signing of the agreement that ended World War I — at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The agreement\, known as the armistice was signed by Germany\, the Allied countries and the United States on the morning of Nov. 11\, 1918.\n\n \n\nThe granite monument with its eternal flame is a local landmark dedicated in 1920 to the nearly 300 Riverhead men who fought in World War I — and the nine who made the ultimate sacrifice.\n\n \n\nFor more on how Riverhead celebrated the armistice and honored its World War I soldiers\, see:\n\n“With 300 native sons fighting in Europe\, Riverhead celebrated the armistice with parades\, parties and prayers.”\n\n \n\n

Cassandra St. George\, a traditional bread-maker\, will be leading this activity. \n– Strolling carolers will be present to add to the festive atmosphere. \n– There will also be children’s activities and refreshments. \nThe event is open to the public and admission is free. DESCRIPTION:North Fork Brewing Company\, located in the old firehouse at 24 E. Second St. in Riverhead\, is hosting a fundraising raffle on Saturday\, Feb. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. to aid the workers who were laid off after a bird flu outbreak at Crescent Duck Farm forced it to cease operations Jan. 17.  \nA long list of people and businesses across the East End have donated raffle items and North Fork Brewery will donate $1 for every pint of four-pack sold during the event.  How U Dogin food truck will donate 20% of its sales during the event. \n
