SUMMARY:Hate crimes vs. hate incidents: a seminar
DESCRIPTION:When hate shows up\, do you know what to do? The Butterfly Effect Project recently faced an incident that\, while deeply upsetting\, wasn’t legally a hate crime. \n“That experience taught us a lot\, and now we want to share that clarity with you\,” the group said. \nThe Butterfly Effect Project\, in partnership with The Suffolk County PD Hate Crimes Unit\, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force will present “The Line Between Hate: Understanding and Navigating Hate Incidents and Crimes\,” a seminar that willl dive into the critical differences between a hate crime vs. just a hateful incident. The seminar will discuss why it matters\, and arm you with the practical steps to take if you encounter hate. This is essential knowledge now more than ever for every Riverhead resident —  young and old\, to build a safer\, more informed community. \nThe seminar will take place June 26 at 6 p.m. at The Butterfly Effect Project’s office\, 1146 Main Road\, Riverhead 11901.
