DESCRIPTION:Join the North Fork Environmental Council (NFEC) for their ‘Paddle What’s Left’ kayaking and shorebird sighting fundraisers this summer. These events will take place on the following dates: \n– Saturday\, June 29 at 8 a.m.\n– Saturday\, July 27 at 8 a.m.\n– Saturday\, Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. \nParticipants will meet at Orient Beach State Park (Eagle’s Neck Paddling booth). Each trip should take approximately two and a half hours. The fee is $45 per person\, which includes a kayak\, paddle\, and life jacket. If you bring your own equipment\, the fee is reduced to $25 per person. DESCRIPTION:Southold Historical Museum is hosting an online art exhibition and sale titled ‘Ten Squared: After the Peconic Bay Impressionists’\, starting from Monday\, July 15\, until Aug. 31\, 2024. Born in Dominica\, the nature isle of the Caribbean\, Beryl began writing and reciting poetry during her formative years. She performs at cultural\, religious\, and special events in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive since 2010\, even before the park itself was established in 2013. \nThe tiny community on the Long Island Sound lost two residents in the collapse of the twin towers 22 years ago. Both were NYC firefighters who died trying to rescue people trapped inside the towers: Thomas Kelly\, 38\, and Jonathan Ielpi\, 29. \nA third Riverhead resident\, Derrick Washington of Calverton\, a 33-year-old Verizon technician\, perished in the World Trade Center. \n

DESCRIPTION:Jamesport Meeting House will host a Historic Jamesport House Tour on Saturday\, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, featuring 16 homes of historical and architectural significance in Jamesport and South Jamesport.  \nTour homes include some of the first houses built in the new port in the 1830s\, as well as those erected later in the 19th century and more recent residences designed by well-known local architects. Architectural styles range from Victorian gothic in a former Methodist campground\, to Greek revival\, Italianate and even mid-century modern.  \nThe homes on the tour are located within three-quarters of a mile of each other and tour patrons are encouraged to walk or bike the tour\, as on-street parking is limited. The tour will start at the historic 1731 Jamesport Meeting House\, the oldest public building on the East End. The Meeting House is located at 1590 Main Rd. (Route 25)\, in Jamesport.  \nTour tickets are $60 per person in advance and $75 on the tour day. SUMMARY:Living History Day at Southold Historical Museum
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to 1775 at the Southold Historical Museum’s Living History Day on Sunday\, Sept. 15. The museum’s Maple Lane Complex will transform into a military encampment\, complete with tents and items that soldiers would have carried as they journeyed to join General Washington’s troops. \n– Reenactors from the Third New York Regiment will portray a unit encamped in what is now Suffolk County during the War of Independence.\n– Visitors can witness demonstrations of firearms\, military drills\, and other daily tasks.\n– The event will also feature blacksmithing\, spinning\, carpentry\, and basket weaving demonstrations.\n– Members of Eastern Long Island Old Time Jam will provide musical entertainment outdoors.\n– The Maple Lane Complex will be open for tours throughout the day. \nThis will also be the final day to view two seasonal exhibits: Quilts of Bygone Eras in the Elfers Collections Center\, and Southold Theatre: Vaudeville to Jesus Christ Superstar. Families are welcome\, but please note that the musket drills can be loud. \nThe event is supported by a Market New York grant from Empire State Development and I Love NY/New York State’s Division of Tourism\, awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
