DESCRIPTION:Riverhead residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes and unwanted prescription medications free of charge at the town’s semi-annual STOP (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) Day Saturday\, Oct. 26\, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riverhead Highway Department facility on Osborn Avenue.\n\n \n\nThe STOP program allows for the proper disposal of residential household hazardous waste\, such as: lead-based paints\, stains and varnishes\, adhesives\, paint thinners\, refrigerants\, antifreeze\, brake and other auto fluids\, fluorescent bulbs\, batteries\, aerosols\, kerosene\, mercury\, photo chemicals\, fungicides\, herbicides\, pesticides\, and e-waste (e.g. computers\, printers\, cell phones\, pagers and VCRs). Nuzzo-Morgan has written six chapbooks\, a memoir\, a children’s book\, and two full-length poetry books. She was the first woman Suffolk County Poet Laureate (2009-2011) and teaches at the C W Post campus of LIU. \n– Richard Bronson: A faculty member at the Center for Medical Humanities\, Compassionate Care & Bioethics of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Bronson is a member of the boards of the Walt Whitman Birthplace and the Long Island Poetry Collective and served as Suffolk County Poet Laureate from 2021 to 2023. \n– Pastor Montez Johnson: An assistant pastor at Riverhead’s First Baptist Church\, in charge of outreach. Johnson works extensively and counsels in Riverhead and Yaphank. He loves to write poetry and hopes to write a play. This is his first time featuring at Poetry Street. \nThe event will be conducted both live and on Zoom simultaneously. Donations are welcomed through Venmo. DESCRIPTION:The Mattituck-Laurel Library is hosting a Canva 101 (Basics) class on Nov. 4\, 2024. The class will run from 5 to 7 p.m. This session aims to teach attendees the basic skills needed to create striking and unique designs using Canva. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the tool bar\, the elements bar\, AI tools\, and other essentials. Attendees are requested to bring a fully charged laptop to the program. The class also serves as a stepping stone for those interested in the Canva 102 (Intermediate) class scheduled for Nov. 18. SUMMARY:Beginner's Crochet Class at Mattituck-Laurel Library
DESCRIPTION:The Mattituck-Laurel Library is offering a beginner’s crochet class starting on Nov. 5\, 2024\, and continuing on subsequent Tuesdays until Dec. 10\, 2024. The class\, led by crochet instructor Alice Jones\, will teach participants basic crochet stitches. By the end of the six sessions\, attendees will have acquired the skills to complete a crocheted hat or scarf\, just in time for the holiday season. \nThe class is perfect for gift-giving or for personal use during the chilly winter months. Participants are required to bring a crochet hook (any size between six and nine) and one skein of light-colored yarn. All registrants will be automatically enrolled in all six classes.
