Currently\, Susan serves as Clark County (WA) Poet Laureate (2024-2026) and studies in the MFA Program at Pacific University. She co-hosts Poetry Street Northwest (PSNW) at Camus Library\, an offspring of Poetry Street! In 2020\, her two chapbooks were published\, Parting Gifts (Local Gems) and In Pilgrim Drag (Finishing Line Press).  \nSteve Borodkin doesn’t remember a time he hasn’t been writing- prose\, short stories\, and poetry. Steve has featured at Poetry Street in the past and we are happy to have him back this month\, reading from his new collection of poetry and prose\, My Night Sky\, due out this fall from Red Penguin Press. The book contains 35 pieces and a short story. Steve lives on the East End and is the docent for the Steinbeck property in Sag Harbor. \nBeryl R. Williams is the founder and president of the Caribbean American Poetry Association\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rich cultural heritage and diverse voices of Caribbean American poets. Born in Dominica\, the nature isle of the Caribbean\, Beryl began writing and reciting poetry during her formative years. She performs at cultural\, religious\, and special events in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Beryl’s poems have appeared in anthologies\, and two collections\, A Pebble In My Shoe and Zandoli\, will be published soon.

All proceeds from the crawl will go towards supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of Long Island’s sea turtles. Thomas Kelly Memorial Road (Park Road.) \nThere will be a procession from Marine Street in Reeves Park to the memorial park beginning at 6 p.m.\, followed by a ceremony at the four-acre park dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. \nThe Reeves Park community has been holding a memorial service on the corner of Sound Avenue and Lt. Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive since 2010\, even before the park itself was established in 2013. \nThe tiny community on the Long Island Sound lost two residents in the collapse of the twin towers 22 years ago. Both were NYC firefighters who died trying to rescue people trapped inside the towers: Thomas Kelly\, 38\, and Jonathan Ielpi\, 29. \nA third Riverhead resident\, Derrick Washington of Calverton\, a 33-year-old Verizon technician\, perished in the World Trade Center. \n

DESCRIPTION:The 1731 Jamesport Meeting House will host a free illustrated lecture entitled\, “Jamesport: 300+ Years of History\,” on Wednesday\, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jamesport Meeting House\, 1590 Main Rd. (Route 25)\, in Jamesport.  \nThe lecture\, by local historian\, Richard Wines\, will present the area’s history going back to the indigenous peoples who inhabited the area before the first European settlers arrived in the early 1600s. Mr. Wines will explain how the area was previously part of Southold\, called Aquebogue\, and how the hamlet came to be renamed Jamesport. He will share fascinating facts about the hamlet’s brief service as a whaling port in the 1830s\, the hamlet’s allure as a vacation destination beginning in the 1840s with the onset of rail travel\, and amusing tidbits that will make for fun trivia knowledge. \nAdmission is free. Registrations postmarked by Aug. 15 cost $60 per person\, while those postmarked by Sept. 1 cost $69 per person.
