Attendees will hear about his journey from boot camp in San Diego and naval schools across the country\, to his adventure as a nuclear-power-trained electrical operator serving on the U.S.S. Billfish stationed out of New London\, Connecticut. \nEdward A. Sierra began his career in the United States Navy. He later worked as a field operator at the Hope Creek Nuclear Power Station in New Jersey\, and then as a nuclear reactor operator at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Sierra is president of the Long Island Chapter of the American Nuclear Society. He holds a bachelor’s in science from Thomas Edison State University and graduate degrees from New York Institute of Technology\, Dowling College\, and Marist College. \nThe lecture is free for members and $8 for non-members\, which includes refreshments. SUMMARY:Beginner's Crochet Class at Mattituck-Laurel Library
DESCRIPTION:The Mattituck-Laurel Library is offering a beginner’s crochet class starting on Nov. 5\, 2024\, and continuing on subsequent Tuesdays until Dec. 10\, 2024. The class\, led by crochet instructor Alice Jones\, will teach participants basic crochet stitches. By the end of the six sessions\, attendees will have acquired the skills to complete a crocheted hat or scarf\, just in time for the holiday season. \nThe class is perfect for gift-giving or for personal use during the chilly winter months. Participants are required to bring a crochet hook (any size between six and nine) and one skein of light-colored yarn. All registrants will be automatically enrolled in all six classes. DESCRIPTION:Suffolk County Community College is hosting a student art exhibit at the Lyceum Gallery on the Eastern Campus from Nov. 6 to Dec. 9\, 2024. The exhibit will showcase over 60 student works created in various applied arts programs such as photography\, graphic design\, interior design\, digital arts\, and animation.
