DESCRIPTION:The NY Blood Center is hosting a blood drive on Monday\, July 21. The drive\, organized by Legislator Catherine Stark and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County\, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drive is open to all who meet the eligibility requirements and are feeling well and symptom-free on the day of the event. \nEligibility requirements include:\n– Must be 17 or older\, or 16 with parental consent form\n– Meet minimum weight requirements \nFor full eligibility requirements and COVID-19 information\, visit nybc.org/eligibility. \nWhile walk-ins are welcome\, appointments are strongly preferred. SUMMARY:Diabetes 101: Essential Management Skills
DESCRIPTION:Join the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County for a comprehensive program on diabetes management\, titled ‘Diabetes 101’. The program is scheduled for Nov. 8\, starting at noon and ending at 1 p.m.\, with an additional 15 to 20 minutes for a Q & A session. The session will be led by a registered dietician\, Nicole Cappello\, and is aimed at those who have been diagnosed with diabetes or their loved ones. The program will cover essential self-management skills such as: \n– Meal planning\n– Self-testing blood glucose levels\n– Working with healthcare providers\n– Stress management \nIn recognition of National Diabetes Month\, the class is free to attend and Spanish translation will be available. Light refreshments will also be provided. The event is proudly sponsored by the Suffolk County Lions Diabetes Foundation.
