DESCRIPTION:Long Island’s Only Chalk Street Art Festival Celebrates its Thirtieth Year \nEast End Arts & Humanities Council presents its annual celebration of community and creativity with the MOSAIC30 Festival on May 31\, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Riverhead Town Hall Campus\, between West Second Street and Railroad Avenue. Rain date is June 7\, 2026. \nVisitors enjoy live music\, local artisan and business vendors\, food trucks\, beverage vendors\, games and projects for kids\, community art projects\, and other family-friendly entertainment. This year’s festival has been relocated from East Main Street to the Riverhead Town Campus due downtown construction and the temporary relocation of East End Arts Council headquarters. \nThe event remains free and is open and accessible for people of all ages and abilities. \nThis year’s festival activities include an interactive silk screening merch table\, drum circle with Bassanio Clark\, Riverhead Free Library’s SLED\, a chill zone courtesy of RISE Life Services\, Kidz Course in the courtyard alongside other kid-friendly activities provided by the Riverhead Lions Club\, live portraits by Gary Long\, live poetry with All One Voice\, tarot card readings with Peter Reilly\, a community America250 art project with fiber artist Sherry Davis\, and more. \nArtist “squares” can be purchased online starting at $25 or onsite at the festival. SUMMARY:Fifth Annual MLK Portrait Project Exhibition Reception Hosted by East End Arts Council
DESCRIPTION:The East End Arts Council is hosting the fifth annual MLK Portrait Project Exhibition Reception on Feb. 27\, 2025. The MLK Portrait Project\, which has been uniting the local youth community through artistic collaboration in celebration of Black History Month since 2020\, will showcase large-scale mosaic portraits of civil rights leaders. These multimedia pieces\, measuring 48” x 48”\, are created by participating Long Island high schools. Each portrait consists of 16 individual panels. The project intertwines education of American history and art\, and its gallery exhibition brings students from many districts together. This year\, the MLK Portrait Project includes work from elementary students from PS106 in Brooklyn\, under the guidance of the East End Arts Council’s Art Programming Director\, Kenneth Jackson\, who pioneered the MLK Portrait Project. The 2025 exhibition includes works from 16 schools and is held in the Lyceum Gallery at Suffolk Community College’s Eastern Campus. The event is free to attend.
