SUMMARY:Fifth Annual MLK Portrait Project Exhibition at Suffolk County Community College
DESCRIPTION:The fifth annual MLK Portrait Project Exhibition is coming to Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus. This exhibition\, in homage to Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. and the enduring legacy of the Civil Rights Movement\, will feature more than 15 48 x 48-inch mosaic portraits of civil rights heroes\, created by local high school art students. \nThe exhibition will run from Jan. 29 through March 7\, 2025\, at the Lyceum Gallery\, located in the Montaukett Learning Resource Center on the Riverhead Campus. The gallery hours are Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.\, Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, and closed on weekends. \nA special reception will be held on Thursday\, Feb. 27\, from 4 to 6 p.m.\, where refreshments will be served and all are welcome. In addition\, courtesy of the Suffolk County Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs\, there will be two special programs in conjunction with the exhibit: \n– Traciana Graves will present ‘Empowerment Through Adversity’ on Feb. 13\, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Montaukett Learning Resource Center\, Room 107/108. \n– A Black History & Black Inventions Display will be on view from Feb. 18 to 25 in the Montaukett Learning Resource Center\, Room 107/108. Visitors can learn about Black History through the individuals who helped shape the world with their inventions. Artifacts will be displayed for the public to browse during the week. \nAll portrait proceeds will support the East End Arts (EEA)’s Scholarship Fund. For additional information about the specific work from the exhibition and the way the art has been coordinated\, visit the EEA’s website.
