DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, the Hallockville Museum Farm is presenting “Slavery on the North Fork.” This enlightening presentation is the result of four years of research by the North Fork Project into the history of slavery in local communities. The illustrated presentation will outline the history of slavery on the North Fork from the earliest settlements in New York to the abolition of slavery here in 1827. It is estimated that 550 people were enslaved on the North Fork during that time. The presenters will share these individuals’ stories\, with a focus on enslavement in the communities surrounding Hallockville Museum Farm. \nThe event will take place on Sunday\, Feb. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room at the Visitors Center of Hallock State Park Preserve. Admission is free\, but reservations are required. \nThe North Fork Project team includes Richard Wines\, Ph.D.\, a local historian\, chair of the Riverhead Landmarks Preservation Commission\, former president of the board of Hallockville Museum Farm\, and Amy Folk\, Southold Town Historian and author. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to delve into a significant part of local history. DESCRIPTION:The 43rd Hallockville Museum Farm Country Fair is set to take place on Saturday\, Sept. 28\, and Sunday\, Sept. 29. This family-friendly event will feature a mix of farm activities\, historical tours and re-enactments\, folk arts and skills demonstrations\, and contemporary music and food trucks. \nNew attractions this year include:\n– Third NY Regiment 1775 Long Island Revolutionary War re-enactors\n– Colonial cooking demonstrations by Diane Schwindt\n– Performances by the Islip Horsemen’s Association Spirit of Long Island Mounted Drill Team\n– Traditional post and beam building demonstration \nThe fair will also offer immersive farm and history experiences such as:\n– Historic home tours\n– Hayrides\n– Pony rides\n– A petting zoo\n– Tractor pulls and parade\n– Baked goods and handcrafted wares for sale\n– Traditional children’s games and activities \nThe fair will be rounded out with live music and food and beverage trucks. Registration is required in advance due to limited class size. The cost is $35 for the general public and $30 for Hallockville members.
