DESCRIPTION:The Greater Jamesport Civic Association will host a free basic life support training class focused on how to respond to emergencies such as cardiac arrest and how to sustain life until first responders arrive. Instruction will include CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator. This is not a certification course. \nAdvance registration is required by April 9. DESCRIPTION:Jamesport Fire Department will host an open house at its training center\, 25 Manor Lane in Jamesport of Saturday\, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. \nDemonstrations include: vehicle extrication\, vehicle fire\, K-9 arson dog\, fire extinguisher trailer\, booster hose target activities for elementary students and pedal car rides for teenagers and adults to promote education and DWI enforcement. \nParticipants include: Jamesport Fire Department\, New York State Police\, The New York Guard\, Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office\, Suffolk County Sheriff\, Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services\, Riverhead Police and Marine Bureau\, United States Coast Guard\, Riverhead Ambulance and the Peconic Bay Medical Center. \nThis event is sponsored by State Sen. Anthony Palumbo and is free and open to the public.

In case of rain\, the event will be postponed to Sunday\, Oct. 6\, at the same time. The open house will feature: \n– Demonstrations and information from the Jamesport Fire Department\, Riverhead Police Department\, New York State Troopers\, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department\, Peconic Bay Medical Center\, and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps\n– Firefighters Association of the State of New York\n– Free giveaways\n– Refreshments \nIn addition to the open house\, the department is also conducting a food drive to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. The food drive starts today\, Oct. 5\, and will continue until noon on Sunday. Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at the pavilion behind the firehouse or at Duffy’s Deli at 1566 Main Rd.\, Jamesport and the Clam Bar at Alize Brewery at 10560 Main Rd.\, Mattituck. At the conclusion of the food drive\, a member of the Jamesport Fire Department will personally deliver the donations to North Carolina.
