DESCRIPTION:The 1731 Series at the Jamesport Meeting House presents an extraordinary concert featuring the incomparable duo of Cuban-American cellist Dr. Tommy Mesa and globally-acclaimed pianist Ilya Yakushev on Saturday\, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. The program for the evening includes: \n– Sonata for Cello and Piano by Claude Debussy\n– Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 3\, Op. 69 by Ludwig van Beethoven\n– Sonata for Cello and Piano\, Op. 19 by Sergei Rachmaninoff \nDr. Mesa is the recipient of Lincoln Center’s 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Sphinx Organization’s 2023 Medal of Excellence. He has performed as a soloist at the U.S. Supreme Court and with major orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, the Cleveland Orchestra\, the Philadelphia Orchestra\, and many others. \nIlya Yakushev is one of the very best young pianists today\, according to the American Record Guide. He has performed in prestigious venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall\, Sejong Performing Arts Center in Seoul\, Great Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg and Victoria Hall in Singapore. The festival will feature silent films specially-curated by artist\, composer\, and filmmaker Cliff Baldwin\, with live music accompaniment by The Aquebogue Contemporary Music Ensemble. Each evening’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. \nHere’s the line-up: \n– Aug. 8: “Voyages to the Moon\,” journeys by George Méliès and Segundo De Chomon\, along with new footage from NASA.\n– Aug. 15: “Home Movies” featuring Sigmund Freud and other American family film rarities.\n– Aug. 22: “Deep Sea Adventures” with mysterious creatures of the ultra-deep oceans\, including Germaine Dulac’s “The Seashell” and “The Clergyman.”\n– Aug. 29: A.I. films of the filmmaker’s dreams and other subconscious creations\, plus surrealist cinematic treats like Francis Picabia’s “Entr’Acte.” \nTickets are priced at $20 for each event or $60 for a series pass.
