The Riverhead Community Awareness Program, Inc. (CAP) is hosting its 37th annual Say NO to Drugs March on Friday, June 7, 2024. The march, which is a culmination of CAP’s two-year prevention program, aims to prevent and delay underage drinking and drug use in youth. This year, the event will be led by women’s basketball legend and Hall of Famer Sue Wicks. Wicks, a Long Island native, has had an illustrious basketball career and is known for her advocacy and leadership. She will be the keynote speaker at the event.
The march will start at 9:30 a.m. in front of Pulaski Street School. The route will take participants south on Roanoke Avenue, then west on Second Street past Town Hall, returning to Pulaski Street School via Griffing and Hallett avenues. Following the march, there will be a brief ceremony on the steps of Pulaski Street School where Wicks, along with the Riverhead Town Board and other elected officials, will address the students and community.
After the ceremony, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1,742 will serve a picnic lunch to all students and guests. The event is not just a march, but a community gathering to support the youth and raise awareness about the dangers of drug use.
