Bullying Prevention hosted by the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force and Suffolk County Office of Health Education

August 24, 2022, 6:00 pm

With school to start again soon parents and students are invited to attend a bullying prevention workshop hosted by the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force and Suffolk County Office of Health Education to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. at Riverhead Free Library.

“Upstander Skills Training” techniques have been taught to several county school districts by John Martin and the Suffolk County Office of Health Education. The techniques include improv games like “I’m a Tree,” “Superpower Name Game” and “Alien, Tiger, Cow” to provide ways to address feelings while promoting empowerment.

“Rather than explaining a complicated topic, turning it into a game allows a student to experience it as a feeling first,” said Martin. “These games will help them know what to say and how to say it, in a situation that they or someone else is in, so they can be an Upstander rather than a bystander”.

The workshop also includes “World’s Best Response Skill: The “Wow, really? Questions” and for parents “Three Magic Listening Questions.”

Admission is free and open to all. However, seating is limited and registration is recommended by calling (631)727-3228 ext. 108.
