
The 1731 Series at the Jamesport Meeting House presents an extraordinary concert featuring the incomparable duo of Cuban-American cellist Dr. Tommy Mesa and globally-acclaimed pianist Ilya Yakushev on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. The program for the evening includes:
– Sonata for Cello and Piano by Claude Debussy
– Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 3, Op. 69 by Ludwig van Beethoven
– Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19 by Sergei Rachmaninoff
Dr. Mesa is the recipient of Lincoln Center’s 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Sphinx Organization’s 2023 Medal of Excellence. He has performed as a soloist at the U.S. Supreme Court and with major orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and many others.
Ilya Yakushev is one of the very best young pianists today, according to the American Record Guide. He has performed in prestigious venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Sejong Performing Arts Center in Seoul, Great Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg and Victoria Hall in Singapore. His orchestral performances include the San Francisco Symphony, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and several others.
