East End Jazz will perform “The Heart of America: Songs of Our Roots,” a concert marking America’s 250-year celebration, at the Jamesport Meeting House. The program explores foundational American music, weaving blues, spirituals and gospel, and country storytelling into jazz-infused arrangements.
Bassist, arranger and East End Jazz director Iris Ornig leads the quartet, with Lauren Lee on vocals, Taka Otomo on piano, Ornig on bass and Brian Woodruff on drums. The set includes reimagined versions of American classics, including “Oh, Susanna,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “This Land Is Your Land.”
Tickets are $20. Advance purchase is recommended.
