The Great Backyard Bird Count, a worldwide event that encourages people to observe and appreciate the avian life around them, is coming up. This free event is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children alike to engage with nature in a fun and educational way. Participants are asked to count birds in their backyard, local park, or any other outdoor setting, and then share their observations online. This data helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them. The count is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society with partner Bird Studies Canada and is made possible in part by founding sponsor Wild Birds Unlimited. Talmage Farm Agway is promoting the event to encourage more people to get involved in birding. More information about the event and how to participate can be found on the Talmage Farm Agway website and the official Bird Count website.
