Award-winning author A.J. Sidransky returns to Temple Israel in Riverhead to talk about ways to ensure that Holocaust survivors are remembered, and that the world never forgets.
Sidransky will discuss the basis for two of his novels which specifically detail his relatives’ experiences during the Holocaust years: “Forgiving Maximo Rothman” and “The Interpreter.” These books tackle experiences from the Holocaust that are unfamiliar to most people, and shine new light on the far-reaching effects beyond the horrors of the concentration camps. He will discuss factors beyond luck that were critical to survival and then talk about the impact that Holocaust trauma has had on the children of survivors.
Sidransky will then interview Shari Goldtowner Lopez, whose parents were Holocaust survivors. They had very different survival stories and surreptitiously met in the U.S. following their immigration. Goldtowner Lopez will talk about how her parents’ history affected her life and world view.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
The program is sponsored by the Milligan family. Admission is free.
