How to be of service to your community: Learn about local volunteer opportunities at ‘expo’

With the MLK National Day of Service coming up on Monday, Jan. 15, the Heart of Riverhead Civic Association invites the public to explore dozens of ways to lend a hand locally at its Volunteer Expo Saturday, Jan 13. The MLK National Day of Service takes place each year on the third Monday in January, a national holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. The day was designated by Congress as a national day of service on which Americans are to encouraged provide meaningful change in their communities by helping others. The Volunteer Expo provides a chance to meet a variety of community non-for-profits to discover volunteer opportunities that match different interests and time availability. All are welcome. The event takes place at 1 p.m. at Riverhead Free Library, 330 Court Street, Riverhead.
