Learn how to talk with your kids about suicide and other difficult subjects

July 11, 2022, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

July is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force, Family Service League and the Riverhead Free Library will present “How to Speak with Your Kids about Suicide and Other Difficult Subjects.” The free program, open to all, will be held Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m. in the library’s meeting room at 300 Court Street. Family Service League’s Robyn Berger-Gaston and Kathy Rosenthal bring decades of experience serving children, adults and families suffering through traumatic events and times of crisis. Drawing on their training and expertise, they will share coping skills and strategies to work through trauma.  And with too many kids falling under the radar, they’ll share information on warning signs and risk factors to look for and how to have a preventative conversation that may save a life. As Family Service League’s division director, Berger-Gaston oversees youth, senior and intergenerational programs, including the Community Crisis Action Team which responds to traumatic events and suicides. Rosenthal is Family Service League’s senior vice president of programs, overseeing dozens of  community based programs for families and individuals of all ages, and also serves on the Community Crisis Action Team and Joe’s Project and trains staff to become team members.
