“Little Known Aspects of Long Island’s Maritime History” hosted at Southold Historical Museum

The second installment of the lighthouse lecture series “Little Known Aspects of Long Island’s Maritime History” will be held at Horton Point Lighthouse on Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. and rain date of Sunday, July 10.

The lecture will be presented by Bill Bleyer a prizewinning staff writer for Newsday and author of several history books. The lecture will discuss Long Island’s wartime maritime history including the country’s first amphibious landing, British blockades, whaleboat raids, submarine warfare, sinking of the only American capital warship in World War I and U-boats dropping off spies during World War II.

The lecture is free to attend and attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. The lecture series is sponsored by Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. Donations are gladly accepted.
