Riverhead Free Library will screen the film “Amistad” as part of its Movie Matinee Friday series.
Set in 1839, the film follows the revolt of Mende captives aboard a Spanish-owned ship and the controversy that follows in the United States after the ship is captured off the coast of Long Island. The case moves through the courts as judges consider whether the Mende are enslaved people or legally free.
Concession stand snacks will be provided.
