Movie matinee Friday: “Yankee Doodle Dandy” at Riverhead Free Library

Riverhead Free Library will screen “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” the biographical musical starring James Cagney as Broadway legend George M. Cohan.

The film follows Cohan as he is brought to the White House to receive a congressional gold medal from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and looks back on his life through flashbacks, from his childhood in his family’s vaudeville act to his early days as a Tin Pan Alley songwriter and his later success as an actor, writer, director and producer. The movie features Cohan’s patriotic songs, including “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Over There.”

Concession stand snacks will be available. No registration is required.
