NFAC Summer Workshops: Improv Workshop (Five-Day Program) with Katy Berry

The North Fork Arts Center (NFAC) is hosting a five-day Improv Comedy Intensive workshop this summer, taught by renowned screenwriter, comedian, and arts educator Katy Berry. The workshop is open to students aged 12 to 16 with a class limit of 16 students. The cost is $275 per session with scholarships available.

The workshop is divided into two sessions. Session one runs from Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11, with a class show on July 12 at 10 a.m. Session two runs from Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18, with a class show on July 19 at 10 a.m. Each session runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop aims to teach the fundamentals of improv through exercises that explore concepts like yes-and, world building, truth in comedy, and trusting your instincts. No prior acting experience is required, just a willingness to be weird!

Katy Berry, originally from Mattituck, is a New York City-based comedian, writer, and musical improviser who’s traveled the world performing at venues including The Kennedy Center, New York City’s Town Hall with David Byrne, and multiple sold-out Edinburgh Fringe Fest runs. Her original writing and videos have been featured in Vulture, Studio360, Bustle, Chortle, Reductress, The Guardian, the Magnet Comedy Film Festival, NYC Web Fest, Coney Island Film Festival, Chain Film Festival and more. Her screenplay POPCORN earned her a place in the 2020 Black List and Women in Film Feature Residency and is currently being produced by Oops Donuts, with two more of her feature scripts currently in development.
