Riverhead Cardboard Boat races

The Riverhead Cardboard Boat Races, hosted by the Riverhead BID & Riverhead Chamber, will take place Aug. 3 at the Peconic Riverfront.  (Rain date: Aug. 17.)

Watch competitors race boats made of cardboard and duct tape on the Peconic River.

The race includes various categories such as the Youth Regatta, Yacht Club Regatta, Outlaw and Pirate Race. Captains and skippers will paddle their cardboard boats as quickly as possible before they sink.

Winning participants will be awarded trophies and additional prizes like Best Spirit, Titanic Sinking, Best Constructed, and Most Creative.

Races start at 11 a.m., but come down to the riverfront early to check out the boats lined up on the grass along the boardwalk before the races begin. Boat check-in and inspection starts at 9 a.m.
