Suffolk County Historical Society will present “Sparkling Through Adversity: Depression Glass of the 1930s,” a Spotlight Series exhibit in the Weathervane Gallery.

The exhibit looks at the rise of mass-produced pressed glassware during the Great Depression, when the crystal and glassware associated with the 1920s became out of reach for many households. Visitors can see colorful dish sets and accessories known as Depression glass, produced in dozens of patterns and hues and sold at low cost.

On view are pieces from the historical society’s collection, including pastel and jewel-tone examples, iridescent opalescent “carnival” finishes, and a uranium glass variety. The exhibit considers how these affordable wares brought small, everyday luxuries to tables during the 1930s.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission applies.
