Join the Mattituck-Laurel Library for an engaging seminar on American history with retired professor John Viteritti. This month’s discussion will focus on President Kennedy’s contrasting approaches to two major events: the Bay of Pigs in 1961 and the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Attendees will gain insight into how Kennedy learned from the Bay of Pigs fiasco and applied a more measured strategy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, thereby averting a potential nuclear war with Russia.
The seminar is free to attend and will take place on Aug. 18, 2025, from 2 to 3 p.m. Register at the library’s website to secure your spot.
