The Suffolk County Council of Scouting America and the Andrew McMorris Foundation will host the fifth annual Andrew’s Top Gun Run at EPCAL Park in Calverton, with participants running or walking on the runway.
The event raises funds for scholarships and scouterships in Andrew McMorris’ memory. In September 2018, members of Boy Scout Troop 161 were struck by a drunk driver while hiking the Greenbelt Trail; several scouts were severely injured, and 12-year-old Andrew McMorris died from his injuries.
On-site registration opens at 7:30 a.m. The fun run, open to children 12 and under, starts at 8:30 a.m. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. Jogging strollers are welcome. The 5K is chip-timed, and refreshments will be available for finishers.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers overall, and to the top three male and female finishers in age groups from 1 to 10 through 85-plus. Results will be posted online after the race.
Pre-registration packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, March 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the runway.
