Step back in time to 1775 at the Southold Historical Museum’s Living History Day on Sunday, Sept. 15. The museum’s Maple Lane Complex will transform into a military encampment, complete with tents and items that soldiers would have carried as they journeyed to join General Washington’s troops.
– Reenactors from the Third New York Regiment will portray a unit encamped in what is now Suffolk County during the War of Independence.
– Visitors can witness demonstrations of firearms, military drills, and other daily tasks.
– The event will also feature blacksmithing, spinning, carpentry, and basket weaving demonstrations.
– Members of Eastern Long Island Old Time Jam will provide musical entertainment outdoors.
– The Maple Lane Complex will be open for tours throughout the day.
This will also be the final day to view two seasonal exhibits: Quilts of Bygone Eras in the Elfers Collections Center, and Southold Theatre: Vaudeville to Jesus Christ Superstar. Families are welcome, but please note that the musket drills can be loud.
The event is supported by a Market New York grant from Empire State Development and I Love NY/New York State’s Division of Tourism, awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
