Poetry Street, the Riverhead-based open-mic venue for poetry and the spoken word, will celebrate its 10-year anniversary at Riverhead Free Library on Saturday, June 29, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Poetry Street was founded in 2014 by former Cutchogue resident Susan Dingle and Robert “Bubbie” Brown of Riverhead as part of East End Arts’ JumpstART program. Dingle, then a ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Southold, and Brown of the First Baptist Church in Riverhead conceived Poetry Street as “an ecumenical social justice ministry, the ‘room without a roof’ where every voice is heard.”
Poetry Street is currently co-hosted by Chip Williford and Maggie Bloomfield.
