Tick-borne diseases are a growing concern, particularly in the eastern Long Island area. To address this, the Riverhead Free Library is hosting an informative session titled ‘Ticks and Tick-Borne Disease – What You Need to Know’. The event will be held on May 15, from noon to 1 p.m.
The speaker for the session is Jerry Simons, PA-C, a member of the medical advisory panel of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center, and an assistant professor at Stony Brook Medicine. He will discuss the types of diseases carried by the different species of ticks found on eastern Long Island. The discussion will cover symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatment options that are available.
In addition to this, attendees will also be provided with tips on preventing tick bites. The event is free to attend and is a must for those who want to stay informed and safe. For more information or to get a Zoom link, contact the Cutchogue Library at (631) 734-6360.
