The Long Island Hate and Bias Prevention Regional Council is hosting a two-part interactive training titled ‘Understanding & Unraveling Racism.’ This anti-racist training is designed for educators, parents, and community members and will take place on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, June 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Holiday Inn Express, Montauk Room in Riverhead. The training aims to:

– Educate participants about the origins of race and racism in America
– Develop a foundational language and understanding regarding racism, bias, prejudice, & discrimination
– Understand the impact and legacy of structural racism on our community
– Identify and understand your racial identity and consciousness
– Develop skills in conflict resolution and disrupting discrimination

The first part of the training on May 15 will focus on understanding and unraveling racism. Participants will learn about the origins of race and racism in the U.S. and begin to recognize themselves within systems of oppression. The second part on June 13 will focus on navigating conflict and having difficult conversations about race, inequity, and diversity.

The training is free to attend, and dinner will be provided for attendees. Participants are recommended to register for both dates. For more information and to register, visit the event website.
