The Southold American Legion Griswold Terry Glover Post 803 is hosting a 22-mile Walk4Valor on Saturday, Sept. 23. The walk is in association with the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation and aims to raise awareness about the tragic issue of U.S. military veterans’ suicide, with more than 22 veterans dying by suicide each day.
The walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Southold American Legion Post on Main Rd. with a send-off ceremony. Participants have multiple options for the walk:
– Walk the full 22 miles from Southold to Orient and back to the Southold Fire Department, for a celebratory welcome and BBQ
– Walk 11 miles from Southold to the Orient Firehouse
– Walk five miles to the Greenport Firehouse
– Complete a virtual walk/run in a location of their choice
Proceeds from the walk will go to the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation scholarship program which supports military families and veterans in crisis, and Veterans Moving Forward, which provides service dogs and canine therapy to veterans. The cost to participate is $30. Those interested may sign up at: https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Southold/WALK4VALOR.
