Teams will race homemade cardboard boats across the Peconic River during the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race at the Peconic Riverfront in downtown Riverhead.
The event begins at 9 a.m., with the race start scheduled for 11 a.m. Spectators can watch the races from the riverfront and spend the morning at a waterfront festival featuring a family fun zone and a vendor marketplace set up near the boat launch in the waterfront parking area. The day also includes kids’ games, activities, food and entertainment.
Boat builders are limited to cardboard, duct tape and latex paint only. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.
